The Biggest Problem I See as an Osteopath:

Facing the Fear of Where You’re At

Let’s talk about something I see all the time in my clinic. It’s not the physical pain or the dodgy back that brought you through the door. It’s the embarrassment about where you’re at right now.

I get it—acknowledging your current state can feel bloody confronting. Maybe your body isn’t doing what it used to. Maybe you feel you’ve let things slide. Or maybe you’re just overwhelmed by the thought of having to start from scratch.

But here’s the truth: the quicker you can stop beating yourself up and accept where you’re at, the quicker we can start making real progress.

Why Embarrassment Holds You Back

When you’re embarrassed, it’s easy to delay getting help or downplay the severity of your issue. You might brush it off, hoping it’ll fix itself. Spoiler: it won’t.

This mindset creates a vicious cycle. The longer you wait, the harder it feels to come in, and the more you worry that you’ll be judged.

But let me tell you something: no one walks into my clinic at the “perfect time.” Life doesn’t work like that. Everyone has their own challenges, setbacks, and moments of feeling like they’re not enough. What matters is that you’re here, ready to make a change.

The Power of Acceptance

Acceptance isn’t about giving up. It’s about acknowledging where you are so we can map out a path forward.

  • Acceptance removes the shame. It’s not about blaming yourself; it’s about owning your story so you can rewrite it.

  • It opens the door to progress. Once we know where you’re starting from, we can set realistic, meaningful goals.

  • It gives you control. Instead of focusing on what you’ve lost, you start focusing on what you can gain.

The Hardest Step Is Walking Through the Door

If you’ve been hesitating to get help, let this be the nudge you need. You don’t have to be “ready” or “fit enough” or “pain-free” to start. You just need to take the first step.

The truth is, I admire anyone who walks through my door. It takes guts to show up and say, “I need help.” You don’t need to apologise for where you’re at—because it’s exactly where you’re supposed to start.

Moving Forward

When you embrace where you are, it doesn’t just shift your body; it shifts your mindset. And that’s where real, lasting change happens.

So, if you’re feeling embarrassed, let it go. I’ve seen it all, and I’m here to help you move forward—no judgment, just progress.

Ready to take that first step? Let’s get to work.
